Forensic Podiatry Consulting

Michael Nirenberg, DPM, B.Sc., B.A.
Forensic Podiatrist

Dr. Nirenberg is one of a handful of forensic podiatrists in the world, offering his services to law enforcement and the private sector.

Forensic podiatry is the application of podiatry knowledge and experience in forensic investigations to show the association of an individual with a scene of crime, or to answer any other legal question concerned with the foot or footwear that requires knowledge of the functioning foot.

As a forensic podiatrist, Dr. Nirenberg can assist in the identification of perpetrators of crime where footprints and footwear evidence are involved. His expertise is required in identification in the assessment of the effects of foot and lower limb function, the evaluation and matching of wear associated with the foot/shoe interface and in comparisons requiring consideration of shoe size. Forensic podiatrists are also involved in the identification of human remains by comparing the feet of the deceased with podiatry records and x-rays of missing persons.

Dr. Nirenberg's interest in forensic podiatry has led him to publish the paper, "New Method of Examining the Inside of Footwear" in the Journal of Forensic Identification, the official journal of the International Association for Identification, and to publish the acclaimed paper, Forensic Methods and the Podiatric Physician, in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association. The latter paper won Dr. Nirenberg the Distinguished Podiatric Medical Writing Award.

Dr. Nirenberg has also been featured on Fox News. (Go to our main site, friendlyfootcare.com to view our video collection.)

Dr. Nirenberg has lectured to local and state law enforcement (including a division of Homeland Security), podiatrists, and other forensic experts. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Forensic Podiatry, the Forensic Podiatry Subcommittee of the International Association for Identification, and is a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners.

Dr. Nirenberg has a passionate, thorough approach to forensic podiatry and whether talking with attorneys, patients, other experts or addressing a jury, he has a pleasant, plainspoken demeanor.
